Luster

Pearl luster is best described as the quality of light that reflects from the pearl’s surface.  While luster ranges are classified from ‘high’ to ‘dull’, highly prized pearls with extremely high luster can have a reflective surface much like a mirror.

Surface Quality

The surface quality of Tahitian pearls is divided into four grades: A, B, C and D. Grade “A” pearls have very few or no blemishes on the surface, while grade “D” pearls may be heavily blemished. Though grade “A” pearls tend to be more expensive and coveted, the surface quality grade does not correlate to its beauty. As with all things, a blemish may add character and a particular expressive quality to a thing of natural beauty.
